successit Constantino Ducae, qui cum tres filios reliquisset, Eudoxia horum mater, contra quod pollicita erat, Romano tum exuli nupsit, qui coronatus est, A. C. 1068. Contra Turcas hic primo felix, postmodum in azanis, qui Dux infidelium erat, manus devenit: A quo cum interrogatus, quid sibi victo facturus fuisset, respondisset libere, lancearum ictibus illum se confixurum fuisse; generose Azan, non imitabor, inquit, saevitiam hanc Christi tui monitis parum con venientem: honesteque illum remisit. Sed nuntiô eius captivitatis in urbem perlatô, iam Michael filius Constantini Ducae, Eudoxiâ pulsâ, Imperium occupaverat: proin Romanus, veste pullâ, in asino, ad Imperatorem deductus, oculisque orbatus est, quod vulnus cum a nemine sanaretur, intumuit mirum in modum caput, pureque et vermibus totum scatere incepit; tantam cala mitatem admirabili constantiâ ferente Romanô, qui tandem obiit, A.
